Puggles weigh 15–30 lbs and stand 10–15 inches. They typically have a slightly longer muzzle than a purebred Pug, which often improves breathing, along with a wrinkled forehead, soulful eyes, and a compact, muscular body. Coat colors include fawn, tan, black, and multicolor combinations. Their coat is short, smooth, and easy to care for.
Temperament
Puggles are affectionate, energetic, and social. They love people of all ages and tend to get along well with other dogs. The Beagle contributes a curious, nose-led personality and moderate energy, while the Pug adds a clownish affection and love of comfort. Puggles can be stubborn — especially when they catch an interesting scent. They may be prone to howling, inherited from the Beagle side.
Grooming Needs
The Puggle's short, smooth coat requires minimal grooming — a weekly brush and occasional bath are sufficient. However, any facial wrinkles inherited from the Pug side need regular cleaning to prevent skin infections. Ear cleaning monthly (Beagles are prone to ear infections) and nail trims every 3–4 weeks complete the routine.
Health Considerations
Puggles often have a slightly longer muzzle than Pugs, reducing but not eliminating brachycephalic breathing issues. They may inherit hip dysplasia, epilepsy (a known Beagle issue), eye conditions, and obesity from either parent. The Pug's tendency toward breathing problems can still appear if the face is more flat. Regular weight management and annual eye and joint checkups are recommended.
